At the WST all the skis have one thing in common – they all get taped in black and therefore their unique design is made unrecognizable for a while. There is only one exemption and that are the models that have to get tested regarding their design and style.

And here, the testers really were seeing something else: colorful designs resembling graffiti, stylish patterns reminding of modern art and fancy designs coming right out of pop art.
Ski Industry realized that today´s skiers are also very much into fashion and design and that those criteria very much influence the buying process. Times of boring, plain skis are simply over.

Today the consumer may choose from a wide range of different designs and therefore emphasize an individual style.
If one is to believe in various predictions, the future of skiing will not be “matching ski and skiwear”, the future will be” design of the skis has to match the personal lifestyle”. But nevertheless, skis are and will always be sports gear and therefore primarily made for getting the skiers down the hill safely. So according to Franz Klammer, who puts the “Design Question” a little bit in perspective:” Either colorful or fancy – a ski has to remain a ski” – and of course he is right!
